Climate Spring provides editorial advice for new ITV thriller ‘After the Flood’

As the new year kicks off with an array of exciting new TV shows, ITV has just launched its new mystery thriller 'After the Flood’. Climate Spring were pleased to collaborate with ITV Studios and Quay Productions on this project, providing editorial advice on a range of climate-related elements of the story.

The new drama is set in a small Yorkshire town which is hit by a devastating flood and follows vigilant police officer Joanna Marshall on her quest of uncovering a mysterious death case.

A gripping thriller for cold winter nights, the series also reveals the real impacts of climate change and hones in on its consequences for the local community and environment.

“We were thrilled to support a story that leads as a thriller, with climate issues woven into the characters, but also the setting of a flooded northern town. Our experienced development team were able to provide ITV Studios and Quay Street Productions with guidance on how to tackle various climate elements within the storyline, while respecting the creative lead of a good crime story, ”says Climate Spring’s Director Lucy Stone.

Climate Spring also supported the ‘After The Flood’ production team and executive producers in visually setting the scene for the climate change context of the story. This also included arranging a field trip to real life locations in Yorkshire.

“As part of this, we showed the production team the water cycle – from the upland reservoirs, through the farms, the canals and into the towns. We introduced them to individuals who had lived through previous severe floods, and were taking steps to try and adapt to the changing climate, and manage the land and water differently,” explains Stone.

The series, written by BAFTA-nominated writer and actor Mick Ford, features a stellar UK cast including Sophie Rundle, Lorraine Ashbourne, Matt Stokoe and Jonas Armstrong.

The new series will premiere on ITV1 and ITVX on Wednesday 10th January at 9pm.

Episodes will air weekly on Wednesday evenings at the same time on ITV1, with the sixth and final episode set to be released on Wednesday 14th February.
